Friends –
A number of you have written to say congratulations on our new plans for covering Miami City Hall. Thank you. That means a great deal.
In case you missed the news, the Spotlight is teaming up with the Florida Trib to expand our City Hall coverage. Two funders – the Miami Foundation and Press Forward South Florida – have agreed to invest $50,000 to help launch this initiative.
This is terrific news – a real vote of confidence in your Spotlight.
But here’s the important part.
Foundation grants help the Spotlight grow. Donor support keeps it strong.
The Spotlight will always be free to read. There’s no paywall, and no cost to subscribe.
Instead, it’s readers who donate – every month, twice a year, or annually – that fund the local news delivered twice a week to your inbox.
The grant funding secured this month will help launch this new reporting partnership, but your support is needed to fully staff and sustain the initiative.
This new grant tells us we are on the right path. It also raises the bar. Our job is to keep earning your confidence and support by producing excellent journalism.
To everyone who has helped the Spotlight since first published in April 2024 – as a reader, a contributor, a source, critic or donor – thank you.
You made this progress possible.
Warmly,
Mel
