Letters to the Editor Policy
Purpose: Letters to the Editor are an important part of our community dialogue, offering readers a platform to share their opinions, suggestions, and responses to articles and issues affecting Coconut Grove and our extended community.
Length: Letters should be concise, preferably between 150 to 300 words, but may be longer in some instances.
Content: Letters must pertain to local issues or respond to content published in The Coconut Grove Spotlight. Personal attacks, offensive language, and unsubstantiated allegations are not permitted.
Civility: Maintain a respectful tone, even when disagreeing with others. We aim to foster constructive and respectful dialogue.
Accuracy: Ensure that all statements of fact are accurate and verifiable.
Transparency: Disclose any potential conflicts of interest, such as affiliations with organizations or individuals mentioned in the letter.
Editing: All letters are subject to editing for clarity, length, and compliance with our editorial standards. We will not alter the intended meaning of your letter.
Verification: Unfortunately there are bad actors and bots, so include your contact information so we can verify it’s really you. Faster response? Share your phone number. Only your name and city of residence will be published.
Publication Rights: By submitting a letter, you grant The Coconut Grove Spotlight the right to publish, distribute, and use your letter in any form or medium. We reserve the right to refuse publication of any letter at our discretion.
