Local residents are invited to a panel discussion Saturday Aug. 31 of the Live Local Act, a new state law that some critics say could supercharge high-rise development in Coconut Grove.
Explaining the law and its impact will be State Rep. Vicki Lopez, State Senator Alexis Calatayud, City of Miami District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo and Miami land-use attorney Anthony De Yurre.
Signed into law a year ago, the Live Local Act offers tax benefits and other incentives to developers who set aside some units within their projects for lower-priced workforce housing. But the law also allows developers, in many cases, to sidestep local zoning codes, raising concerns that out-of-scale developments could unfairly impact existing communities.
The discussion will be held at the Vizcaya Historic Garage located at 3250 South Miami Avenue in Coconut Grove from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
