Come Home to Virrick Park. The Coconut Grove Reunion brings neighbors, old friends and new generations together where friendships were built and legends were made. Vizcaya Village Market… Vizcaya’s eclectic farmers market runs on adjusted summer hours through September 27, with local vendors offering fresh-made delicacies, hand-crafted goods, fruits and vegetables, baked goods, and vegan products inside Vizcaya’s historic farm and village. Beating the Summer Heat… Before you or your family gets flush with the heat, head to one of the city’s official Cooling Centers. The branch libraries in Virrick Park and Shenandoah (see above) are two designated centers. Hours vary, but the centers are typically open when the sun is up. See a full list of centers here.
Chilling at the Barnacle… Who needs air conditioning when you have Biscayne Bay? If you’re craving some outdoor time but sweating the heat, check out the Barnacle Historic State Park at 3485 Main Highway, where you can catch a breeze off the bay while chilling on the front porch. During the summer, the park is open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Or with an Icee in Kennedy Park… As legend has it, Alan Cohen of A.C.’s Icees was chilling under a tree in Kennedy Park more than 40 years ago when he decided to make the park his place of business. Primary election voting starts with early voting sites opening Monday 8/3 at 7:00 a.m. The closest voting locations are Vizcaya’s Historic Garage, 3250 South Miami Avenue and Coral Gables Branch Library, 3443 Segovia Street, Coral Gables. Dates and times of the polls vary, so check the schedule and make a plan. In addition to elections for candidates, two referendum measures are up for a vote. Early voting ends 8/16 with the election on Tuesday 8/18.

Judge the Judges. Before casting a ballot in the August primary, hear directly from the candidates running for Circuit and County Court in this free virtual forum hosted by the League of Women Voters. Judicial races are nonpartisan, so voters of every party affiliation—including those with no party affiliation—may participate. Who’s Holding the Purse Strings?. Miami-Dade’s proposed budget touches nearly every part of daily life, from public safety and transportation to parks, housing and neighborhood services. Watch a new Miami play change before your eyes. Coconut Grove Theatre Festival and ARRAE Gallery bring performing and visual arts together for an open rehearsal of the new play If These Walls. Surrounded by the work of ARRAE Volume III, actors will perform a scene, discuss it with the audience and reshape it in real time. The evening also includes a raffle for two original art prizes. Cape Florida Lighthouse’s 200th birthday—Climb Miami-Dade’s oldest standing historic structure for sweeping views and explore the newly reopened museum inside the Keeper’s Cottage once occupied by founding Grovites. Candidate Forum. With early voting already in progress and the election fast approaching (Tuesday 8/18), the Shenandoah Neighborhood Association’s candidate forum is your best chance to see the candidates in person and judge them yourself. A New Jazz Voice Takes the Stage. Summer Splash Time… The City of Miami has 12 aquatic facilities including the new Verneka Sturrup Silva pool at Elizabeth Virrick Park in Coconut Grove.
