Meet Sinclair Holian, our new Gentrification & Development Reporter for Coconut Grove.
Sinclair will join the Spotlight newsroom in July as a full-time reporter covering the economic, social, cultural and environmental impact of development and gentrification in Coconut Grove. She is one of two Report for America journalists who will join our news team.
Her work will help readers better understand how growth affects housing, local businesses, public spaces, culture, and the character of the neighborhood itself. Some of her stories will focus on neighborhood change. Others may focus on history, preservation, longtime residents, or the forces that shape who can live, work and play in Coconut Grove.
Sinclair brings a strong reporting background to her new job.
Through Report for America, Sinclair previously covered segregation and its lasting impacts in Virginia. Her reporting on historic Black-owned farmland earned national recognition through the Hearst Journalism Awards Program. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has reported on issues ranging from education and healthcare to economic opportunity and community development.
Readers will get to know Sinclair best through her work, and Sinclair will get to know Coconut Grove best through its residents.
