Keeping the Grove True to Itself
Dear Neighbor,
Every neighborhood has its guardians — people who look at a proposal, a tree, or a block and ask, is this still the Grove we love? Those are the voices that fill our pages and keep this place grounded.
In Playhouse Neighbors Fear Loss of Their Community, longtime residents described their fight to preserve a sense of scale and belonging amid rapid redevelopment. In Let’s Slow Down Before We Change the Face of Our Neighborhoods, we explored how thoughtful planning — and a little patience — can protect the character of a historic community.
Those stories share a single thread: respect for place. The Spotlight exists to give that respect a voice, through clear, fact-based reporting that helps residents understand what’s changing and why.
Give Miami Day is one small way to strengthen that mission. Your gift helps us keep local coverage independent, accurate, and neighbor-focused — so every reader, from old-timers to newcomers, can see their Grove reflected honestly. (The GMD website is open now. Please support the Spotlight there.)
Thanks for staying informed, for speaking up, and for helping preserve the story of this extraordinary corner of Miami.
