Miami Police have made an arrest in connection with the June 19 fatal shooting of 57-year-old Christopher Jones on Douglas Road in Coconut Grove.
Albert Antown Sistrunk, 38, of 14721 Polk Street in Richmond Heights, was arrested the following day and charged with murder in the second degree with a weapon and felony drug possession.
Police identified Sistrunk as a suspect after reviewing video surveillance footage of the shooting.
According to police, Jones was riding his bike on Douglas Road around 1:00 a.m. shortly before he was shot. He was stopped at the corner of Douglas and Oak Avenue when a white Nissan SUV approached and then stopped.
Sistrunk allegedly stepped from behind the wheel with a gun, approached Jones and then pistol-whipped him. “While the victim was struck by the firearm, the firearm was then discharge(d) striking the victim in the left shoulder,” the arrest affidavit says.
The shooter fled the scene and Jones was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
Police were able to locate the white Nissan SUV parked in front of a home at 14484 SW 299 Street.
Sistrunk was arrested after leaving the house and driving away in a blue Honda Accord with a companion. Police stopped the vehicle and later arrested Sistrunk.
The arrest report offered no motive for the shooting.
