A woman was assaulted in her West Grove home last month by an intruder who fled with her cell phone. Police apprehended a male suspect a short time later, and the man confessed to the crime.
Miami Police have arrested a 35-year-old man on a felony charge of burglary with assault or battery after a disturbing incident on William Avenue in Coconut Grove.
A woman was asleep at home last month when an intruder entered her bedroom and assaulted her while touching himself, police said.
The man later fled with the woman’s cell phone and a pillowcase. She called police and the suspect was apprehended a short time later a few blocks from the woman’s home.
The assault happened in the early morning hours of May 16 in the 3400 block of William Avenue, two blocks south of Grand Avenue.
Police identified the suspect as Jordan Tyler Pinkney, 35, and listed his home address as 2950 NW 7 Street in West Flagler.
Pinkney was charged with two felony counts of burglary (with assault or battery) and grand theft, and a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure.
Police gave this account of the crime:
The victim told police the intruder entered her room shortly after 1 a.m., stood by her bed and exposed himself.
“I want to lie down next to you and look at you,” the man told the woman. The woman said she feared for her life, and repeatedly asked the man not to touch her.
The man then began touching himself while making disturbing comments. He asked the victim to find a pornographic website on her phone. He took the phone and then touched the woman without her consent. She asked him loudly not to touch her.
“It’s hard to focus with all your noise,” the man told the woman.
After 15 minutes, the man left with the woman’s phone and a white pillowcase. The woman called police and identified the man by describing his clothing, shaved head and arm tattoos. She later identified Pinkney as the man who was in her bedroom earlier.
Pinkney confessed to the crimes, according to police, and was transferred to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. There was no indication that Pinkney was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, according the arrest affidavit.
Former Coconut Grove Police Commander Daniel Kerr described Pinkney as a “crazy man” but didn’t elaborate, and police provided no additional details about the crime. Pinkney was also charged in connection with an attempted burglary that happened a day earlier in the 200 block of Florida Avenue in Coral Gables after trying to enter a home disguised as a DoorDash driver, according to WPLG Local 10 News.
