Commissioner Vicki Lopez has a knack for finding ways to torture her constituents. From the Live Local Act (which is destroying NCD’s and historic neighborhoods), to making living on your boat illegal. I have seen the explosion of boat numbers in Dinner Key… an explosion of large motor yachts and speed boats. Talk about harming the environment!! There isn’t a single manatee in our beautiful bay without scars from their propellers. Hey, Vicki, leave the sailors alone!

  2. I am a lifelong boater and know the bay and this issue quite well. The environmental concerns, although real, are just a red herring. I wish they would just be honest and hash this out pragmatically. The real issue is that certain areas like in front of the Grove and in front of Hobie and Windsurfer beach (and until recently Marine Stadium) were getting clogged with anchored vessels. The cruisers anchoring for a few days to make their way after weather are not a problem. It is the liveaboards that allow their vessels to deteriorate to the point of being safety hazards and no longer functional. This means that in a storm, even if they want to remove them, they can not. This means that the boats end up on Bayshore, in the Parking Lot of CGSC, In people’s houses, or sunk in the marinas, channels, and the bay. I have read this law and they need to amend it to allow for moving every 30 days to a different anchorage to prove they are not derelict and then the law should be fine.
