A cyclist was hospitalized after a crash involving a vehicle Saturday morning on the Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami police said.
Officers responded at about 8:30 a.m. Aug. 29 to the crash at 3501 Rickenbacker Causeway on Virginia Key, near Miami Marine Stadium, according to Miami Police Department spokesperson Kiara Delva.
The cyclist was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Police did not provide the cyclist’s identity or condition.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Delva said.
A Miami Fire-Rescue employee familiar with the crash, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the incident, told the Spotlight that the driver was not believed to have been intoxicated and told authorities he had been distracted by his cellphone
Miami police have not confirmed those details or said what caused the crash. Delva said the circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation.
