After-Hours Construction? In Miami, It’s Always Approved

Despite laws that allow construction noise waivers only in emergencies and to avoid risks to life and property, records reveal that for years city officials have been rubberstamping applications, even for routine job-site operations.

Over the last nine months of construction on Coconut Grove-based Terra Group’s Mr. C Residences, city-issued noise waivers were in effect for all but 19 days. (David Villano for the Spotlight)

well, this was a fascinating bit of reading. I think what would really streamline our local democracy would be to remove the miami city commission and replace it with Terra Group. that way, we could move all of these development projects forward at a much more capitalistic clip and avoid all this red tape. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot… we did that already! Go Miami go!

  2. The City of Miami’s own website says: “noise waivers may be issued to eliminate or reduce any dangerous or hazardous condition which endangers life or property”. (https://www.miami.gov/Permits-Construction/Remodeling-and-Construction/Apply-for-a-Construction-Noise-Waiver)

This article reports, “Of the 1,135 requests submitted, none were denied, though two were later revoked.” Wow, that’s a lot of hazardous conditions!

What a farce. Miami gives away Warrants and Waivers like water.

Once again, an example of how the City of Miami has government of developers, for developers, by developers.

It would be so nice if Miami prioritized preserving the resident’s quality of life instead of kissing up to developers and their campaign contributions.

Thank you, CG Spotlight, for once again showing how dysfunctional our City government can be.

The fact that our District 2 elected official feels comfortable not being available for comment – on many articles written about quality of life issues – is concerning. Coconut Grove is under assault. The amount of “new construction “ slated, along with the closure of sidewalks is causing safety concerns for pedestrians. Wouldn’t it be refreshing for our elected officials to state that as their number one concern – and then do something about it. We are begging anyone who is listening – do something about pedestrian safety!!!
