To the Editor:
Regarding your August 18 article concerning the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Your link to the County’s web page and subsequent link to their current (so-called) ‘renovation’ plans show their schematic for their advertised 300-seat theater to be only 201 seats. Their rehearsal space is not part of ‘the’ theater! If they have updated their website plans and/or what they sent to the State (of Florida), let’s see them.

(Editor’s note: The county’s Cultural Affairs Department did not respond to a request for clarification from the Spotlight. Miami-Dade County and GableStage, the theater company that will move into the revived playhouse once it reopens, have consistently described the new performing space as a 300-seat theater.)

Hi Richard – Yes, the Playhouse plan is for a 300-seat theatre. The schematic shown is only of one sectional in a multi-page plan. It is missing the mezzanine and the first two rows which are where the missing seats are.
