Pedal Through Paist — Gables Bike Tour. Bike Walk Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Museum team up for a two-hour ride exploring the architectural legacy of Phineas Paist, the supervising architect behind City Hall, the Venetian Pool, and other signature buildings of the Gables. Halloween on Coral Way — Shenandoah vs. Silver Bluff in a battle of boos. It’s neighbor versus neighbor in the ultimate Halloween smackdown, as homes across Shenandoah and Silver Bluff compete for glory in décor that’s scary, sparkly, or just plain over-the-top. You can be a judge, so get out and get into in this cross-neighborhood clash of fun and fright. Fantastic prizes await the winners. Deadline (dead—get it?) 10/19, at midnight, naturally. Giddy-Up Book Club. A new neighborhood club trots out with Horse—the historical novel about the legendary racehorse Lexington—led by librarian Jennifer Hernandez. Park yourself at Shenandoah’s October meeting. The Miami Shenandoah Neighborhood Association is moving its monthly meet-up to the third Monday this time—just in time to talk parking. Guest speaker Humberto Escandon from the Miami Parking Authority will dish on meters, mobility, and what’s driving change in the neighborhood. Trick-or-Treat Street Showdown — nominate your favorite haunt. Some blocks just do Halloween better—spookier porches, fuller candy bowls, bigger crowds of tiny ghosts and superheroes. The Spotlight wants to know which streets top your list for best trick-or-treating in the Grove. Miami’s in-person municipal elections arrive Tuesday 11/04 with the mayoral and District 3 races on the ballot. Monster Mash — Rotary’s fright night at the Woman’s Club. The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove is back with its 3rd Annual Monster Mash, a ghoulishly good bash featuring costumes, dancing, raffle prizes, food, and a cash bar—all to benefit local Thanksgiving food baskets. Little Bahamas Celebration — honoring Grove roots. Coconut Grove was built by Bahamian settlers whose descendants still call it home. Early voting starts Saturday — and Miami’s voters have choices. Beginning Saturday 10/25 at 8:00 a.m., early voting opens for Miami’s municipal elections—where ballots include races for mayor and District 3 city commissioner. Many Grove early voters will head to Miami City Hall, while Shenandoah Branch Library offers another nearby option. You can also drop off your vote-by-mail ballot securely at either site. Bring a valid photo ID with signature; your voter card isn’t required but never hurts. The hurt will come later if you don’t vote.
Tour de Fright (Costumes on Wheels).
