To the Editor:
Last Saturday’s Community Conversation on Freedom and Justice brought together friends and neighbors from across Coconut Grove and the broader county for a meaningful morning of dialogue and reflection.
Attendees from diverse faiths, backgrounds, and cultures engaged with two local champions of freedom — pioneering journalist Ms. Bea Hines and Professor Emeritus Dr. Marvin Dunn.
Their powerful stories of truth, persistence, strength, and resilience offered valuable lessons on overcoming obstacles and inspiring change.
The event was organized by Carolyn M. Donaldson of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and We The People of 305, with additional support from Illine Davila of the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove and other sponsors.
The event’s impact was rooted in the personal histories shared by Ms. Hines and Dr. Dunn, highlighting their roles in shaping and defending American principles and values. Their experiences resonated deeply with attendees, encouraging continued action toward building a more just and free society.
The sponsoring organizations plan to host future events to further engage the community in meaningful conversations and positive change. Stay tuned.
