After parting ways in August with longtime aide and chief of staff Maggie Fernandez, Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins has a new chief of staff – Maca Casado, the woman who has served as her communications director since February.
Higgins announced her choice for chief of staff on Monday, together with the appointment of Marta Viciedo as chief strategy officer. The mayor had tapped Viciedo previously to serve as her director of strategic initiatives and economic growth.
Before joining the mayor’s office, Casado served as vice president of communications at Operativo and as a national spokeswoman for the Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign, according to Monday’s announcement. Viciedo, a co-founder of Transit Alliance Miami, previously worked at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
In announcing the staff changes, the mayor did not say whether the twin promotions came with a raise in pay.
