With Labor Day now safely in the rearview mirror, the Miami City Commission is back at work, starting on Saturday September 7 at 10 a.m. with the first budget hearing for the fiscal year that begins October 1.

Worried about rising property taxes, wasteful spending, or misguided priorities at Miami City Hall? Residents will have a chance to comment on the city’s proposed budget in person at 3500 Pan American Drive or online.


Grove Bid Announces a new Tagline for its 2025 Marketing Campaign

The Coconut Grove Business Improvement District (BID) has chosen a new tagline for its 2025 marketing campaign. The winning tagline – Discover Coconut Grove: Miami’s Original Gem – was chosen after the BID invited residents to vote on the final choice. “A big thank you to everyone who voted,” the BID said this week in an announcement.

How’s your personal dining safari progressingMiami Spice is halfway through, and the Grove’s 19 participating restaurants have prepared their best for this feast for locals who love fine dining on a budget.

Speaking of budgets… Saturday premieres the most expensive ticket in townThe City of Miami’s Annual Budget. The seats at Saturday morning’s presentation are free, but who knows if this year’s presentation will be a melodrama or a comedy?  Saturday 9/7, 10 a.m.  City Hall.

Saddle up!  We’re heading up to the rodeo in Davie, Saturday 9/7 only, 7:30 p.m.  The only local rodeo until next year, the Bergeron Rodeo is exciting family fun. These cowboys and cowgirls are real pros.  Our favorite?  The young girls barrel races.  How do they stay on their horses?  Crazy!  Kids from the audience can join in to chase a calf.  Tickets required.

Work off some Spice calories with Growing for Inclusion’s 40-mile bike ride Sunday morning 9/8, 7:00 a.m.  Meet at Specialized, the new bike shop at 3208 Grand Ave. 

Saddle sore? Budget hangover?  The Biltmore Hotel tour is totally free.  Meet Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the main lobby (left-hand/eastern end) to join the tour of this Gables landmark.  Free registration required.  (Hint: Afterwards hang out at the historic pool for drinks or lunch.)

Miami Shenandoah Neighborhood Association meets Monday 9/9, 7:00 p.m. at Shenandoah Park.  Free.

The hottest ticket Tuesday is Trail Trivia night.  Open to everyone, this “Did that really happen in the Grove?!” contest  is hosted by Friends of the Commodore Trail at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club.  Teams form up at the start or bring your own ready-made-group for this fun.  (Sneak preview: One of The Eagles’ best-selling songs was recorded in the Grove.  Which one?)  9/10, 7:00 p.m.  Free.  Sailing Club, upstairs. No parking on site.
