Holiday Season hits the gas. Miami isn’t sliding into December so much as flooring it. Christmas Wonderland is already testing the limits of human equilibrium, Fairchild is turning itself into a storybook fever dream, and Art Week is buzzing loudly enough that crossing the causeway feels optional. Even the mayoral runoff is doing its part to keep the pulse up — who says civic duty can’t come with a little adrenaline?
Closer to home. The Grove, naturally, is running its own holiday multiverse: choirs in candlelit sanctuaries, Scouts marching at dawn like a merit-badge battalion, Bahamian art popping up in the neighborhood, bingo going mildly rogue, and more concerts than even the most caffeinated resident could reasonably attend. It’s December in the Grove — loud, cheerful, slightly chaotic, and impossible not to love.
Christmas Wonderland at Tropical Park. Subtle? Not for a second. The self-declared “Largest holiday attraction in the U.S.” lands at Tropical Park with a riot of lights, carnival rides, and fairground food that probably violates at least three dietary guidelines and tastes incredible anyway. It’s part holiday magic, part adrenaline, part “I wonder if I’ll survive this roller coaster?” All just a couple miles west on Bird Road. Tropical Park, 7900 Southwest 40 Street. Tickets required — but the parking, miraculously, is free.
A Very Merry Garden. Fairchild goes full holiday imagination this month, turning its grounds into a world of lights, music, and storybook surprises. Night Gardens returns, the Jazz Club swings under the stars, Santa drops by each week, and reindeer — plus Mrs. Claus — seem to have taken up seasonal residence. Add crafts, letters to the North Pole, and a dozen little wonders around every corner, and you’ve got a garden that feels freshly made for December. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road. Dates and tickets here .
The Mayoral Runoff Election is coming up on Tuesday 12/9. Make a plan for your vote — whether it’s by mail, early voting (Friday 12/5-Sunday 12/7), or voting on election day. They’ll all lead you to the same options and what a choice it will be. A typical sample ballot is found here.
Basel buzz without the bridge. Sure, the Beach is throwing its annual glitter storm — million-dollar canvases, velvet ropes, the whole circus. But anyone who lives this side of the causeway knows you don’t have to cross it to feel the charge of Art Week. The Grove and its neighbors are hosting installations that are every bit as bold, curious, and wander-worthy. Here are four you can reach on foot, bike, or with a quick Metro hop…
Rootwork: The Botanically Inspired Art of Naomi Fisher. Naomi Fisher’s long love affair with Miami’s plant life takes center stage in this solo exhibition at The Kampong. Fisher practically grew up in Fairchild Tropical Garden, thanks to her botanist father, and her work reflects that deep-rooted connection — sculptures, paintings, ceramics, and large-scale pieces shaped by wild, lush ecosystem. The Kampong, 4013 South Douglas Road, through Tuesday 12/31 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (last entrance at 3:00 p.m.). Exhibit included with Kampong admission.
Pinta Miami. The only Miami Art Week fair devoted entirely to Latin American and Ibero-American art lands right here in Coconut Grove, bringing a boutique, close-up experience to The Hangar. An intimate wander through some of the most interesting work being made across the hemisphere, it’s all tucked into the waterfront instead of the convention-center chaos across the causeway. The Hangar, 3385 Pan American Drive, through Sunday 12/7 during fair hours. Admission required.
Grove Miami brings a burst of Bahamian artistry to the Gibson Education Center with a pop-up gallery celebrating visual biography and the legacy of people and places. Imagined Worlds at the Lowe. Innovation in art has been happening for centuries, and the Lowe Art Museum offers a literal lesson in perspective. This exhibition looks back to the Renaissance moment when Brunelleschi and Alberti introduced linear perspective, opening the door for Western painters to create imaginary worlds through landscapes, window frames, stone walls, and dramatic horizons. These Old Master works pull you deep into the artist’s mind. Lowe Art Museum, 1301 Stanford Drive, Coral Gables, during regular museum hours. Free.

Seraphic Fire for the Season. The acclaimed a cappella chorus returns with its Billboard-chart-topping Christmas program, filling candle-lit sanctuaries with classics like O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, and Jesus Christ the Apple Tree. The evening also includes a reading of A Visit from St. Nicholas — the poem that gave the world “’Twas the night before Christmas” and half of what we picture when we imagine the holiday at all. Three nearby performances: St. Philip’s Episcopal in Coral Gables on Sunday 12/7 at 7:30 p.m.; St. Sophia Greek Orthodox in Miami on Tuesday 12/9 at 7:30 p.m.; and Church of the Little Flower in Coral Gables on Friday 12/12 at 8:00 p.m. Info and required tickets.
