One of the quiet privileges of building a local publication is getting to work alongside people who care deeply about the community they cover.
Over the past year, full-time staff writer Jenny Jacoby has helped readers better understand Coconut Grove through thoughtful, deeply reported stories grounded in curiosity, fairness, and care for the people behind the headlines. After a year of reporting full-time for the Spotlight, Jenny has decided to take some time to travel and explore career options. Her last day at the Spotlight will be May 22.
Her reporting on Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza, The Last Carrot, Charles Barber Shop and City Hall spending became some of the most widely read and discussed work published by the Spotlight, not simply because the subjects mattered, but because the reporting helped neighbors better understand one another and the community we share.
The Spotlight is grateful for Jenny’s work, professionalism, and steady contribution to the publication during an important period of growth. Everyone at the Spotlight wishes her the very best in her next professional adventure. Jenny invites you to follow her @jennyjacobynews. And of course, you can always reread her stories at coconutgrovespotlight.com using the search tool.
Thank you for continuing to support reporting that is rooted in community life and accessible to everyone.
Warmly,
Mel Meinhardt
