Frustrated by the governor’s failure to call a special election to fill an empty seat in House District 113, one candidate has turned his backyard tiki hut into a “constituent” office to meet with district voters, including those in the North Grove.

Have a complaint about what the Florida Legislature is up to this year?
Good luck, if you live in Florida House District 113, which includes Coconut Grove.
The closest thing you and nearly 76,000 other voters have to a district office is a tiki hut surrounded by potted trees in the backyard of a Silver Bluff home.
From Armbister Park to seven tackles as a Seattle Seahawks cornerback in Super Bowl LX, Josh Jobe continues a legacy of football excellence in the Grove.

With braids and a smile, a young Josh Jobe could often be spotted walking the half block from his home on Washington Avenue to Armbrister Park, football in hand.
Depending on the day, Jobe was preparing to practice with the Coconut Grove Knight Rider Pop Warner championship team – or to run football drills with his dad.
That was back in the early 2000s, when Jobe was known as “Woogie” – not as the breakout Seattle Seahawks star he later became. Certainly not as the Super Bowl champion he is today.
Founded in 1887 by Coconut Grove pioneer Commodore Ralph Munroe, the Washington’s Birthday Regatta returns this weekend for its for its annual reenactment of one of Miami’s oldest maritime traditions.

Just after sunrise on Feb. 22, 1887, a group of hardy South Florida settlers in 15 shallow-draft sailboats headed east toward the northern tip of Key Biscayne in the inaugural Washington’s Birthday Regatta.
The race was conceived and organized by Coconut Grove pioneer Commodore Ralph Middleton Munroe, whose waterfront home, The Barnacle, has been part of the Florida state park system since 1973.

Crowds of people spent the long President’s Day weekend sizing up the art and sampling the fare at this year’s Coconut Grove Arts Festival. The three-day event offered a feast of sights and sounds, with 285 featured artists, a live music program, and a beer garden stretched along Coconut Grove’s waterfront. Freelance photographer Marra Finkelstein was there to capture the scene for the Spotlight.
