The Coconut Grove home of Range Funeral Home, a local landmark on Grand Avenue, was torn down this week in another sign of changing times in the historically Black neighborhood known as Little Bahamas. Coming soon, to take its place: 27 rental apartments and 3,500 square feet of new retail space. The development team behind the project – Silver Bluff Development, Abbhi Capital and Peter Gardner – are the same partners who are building the 46-unit Elemi residential development on Thomas Avenue and Margaret Street, adjacent to the Coconut Grove Farmer’s Market.
What’s at Risk: Miami Report Weighs the Threat of Climate Change
The City of Miami is seeking public feedback to complete a state-mandated report on which city facilities and assets are most at risk in an era of climate change. The report may help the city to secure state funding for mitigation projects that reduce the risk of community flooding. Local Olympian sailor Sarah Newberry Moore didn’t gain a medal in mixed multihull (Nacra 17) competition, but she earned our ever-lasting admiration for the skills of the multihull crews. Here’s a video showing the physicality required.
