A Sunny Isles teenager has been arrested and charged with causing the death this month of a 54-year-old bike rider on the Rickenbacker Causeway.

A 14-year-old boy from Sunny Isles Beach who was riding an electric dirt bike earlier this month on the Rickenbacker Causeway has been charged in connection with the death of a man on a Friday night bike ride with his wife, according to Miami Police.
Fabian Moses was hit from behind and thrown from his bike as he was climbing the William Powell Bridge in the designated bike lane at approximately 8:30 p.m. on August 15, police said.
As he fell to the ground, Moses struck the concrete barrier that divides the eastbound bike lane from the sidewalk. His wife, who was riding behind him, called 911 and Moses was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center, where he died later that evening.
The teenager was arrested the following Thursday after voluntarily surrendering himself to police. He has been charged with a third-degree felony for operating a vehicle without a license causing death or serious injury.
A stolen-vehicle chase that began in Coral Gables and ended in Coconut Grove early Friday morning triggered a massive police response, alarming residents who found themselves caught in the middle of an unfolding crime scene.
By Jenny Jacoby

Early Friday morning, dozens of police cars from Coral Gables and Miami rushed onto the streets of West Coconut Grove in pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
The scene quickly amplified, as a helicopter circled overhead, schools were put on lockdown, and neighbors were told to shelter in place, or avoid the area altogether.
Neighborhood chats exploded with life, as friends and neighbors traded information and sought answers. Rumors began to fly that several armed men were on the loose near Shipping Avenue and New York Street.
Life in the Grove was put on pause.
As Chairman of the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council, I’m writing to correct Richard Fendelman’s August 21st claim that the new Coconut Grove Playhouse theater will have fewer seats than the 300-seat theater detailed in the County’s proposed plans.
The plans for the new theater include a total of 306 seats. The ground floor plan does not show all the seats because the floor is raked, and the upper rows of seating can be found on the second (mezzanine level) of the design plans.
The Coconut Grove Spotlight is examining reports of drainage problems and flooding that residents say may be tied to recent development projects built next to their homes. We are seeking input from property owners and tenants who have experienced flooding, runoff, or related water management issues since nearby construction began. Your experience could help shed light on whether building practices are affecting surrounding neighborhoods.
If you’ve been impacted, please contact us at [email protected] and put “Flooding” in the subject line. Include your full name and a phone number in case we’d like to follow up. Your name will not be used without your permission.
Thanks,
The Coconut Grove Spotlight Team
