Local organizers say they have collected the signatures of 15,000 Miami voters, roughly 75% of the number needed to place their proposed political reforms on the ballot next year.

A grassroots effort to reform Miami’s municipal government is gaining momentum, organizers announced this week, just days before local voters head to the polls to pick a new mayor to lead the city’s $3-billion government.
Miami residents embraced change last month when they voted to erect new guardrails at City Hall, including lifetime term limits for local politicians, mandatory charter review, and citizen oversight of Miami’s district voting maps.
Organizers of the Stronger Miami petition drive now say 15,000 of those same voters have signed up to bring additional change to Miami City Hall.
Miami voters can get a jump on Election Day by casting a ballot this weekend at any one of eight early voting sites, including Miami City Hall in Coconut Grove.

Miami voters head to the polls this weekend to choose their next mayor and, in the case of District 3 voters, a candidate to replace outgoing City Commissioner Joe Carollo.
The election is Tuesday, Dec. 9, but early voting begins Friday and continues through Sunday at eight locations, including Miami City Hall at 3500 Pan American Drive in Coconut Grove and the Shenandoah Branch Library at 2111 SW 19th Street.
Unpack your binoculars. Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count is almost here.
By Jenny Staletovich

Calling all bird lovers. The National Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count gets underway Sunday, Dec. 14 this year.
Whether you’re a backyard birder counting avian visitors at your feeder or an avid birder with a Life List, now is your chance to contribute to one of the longest, most continuous scientific data sets in history.

Holiday Season hits the gas. Miami isn’t sliding into December so much as flooring it. Christmas Wonderland is already testing the limits of human equilibrium, Fairchild is turning itself into a storybook fever dream, and Art Week is buzzing loudly enough that crossing the causeway feels optional. Even the mayoral runoff is doing its part to keep the pulse up — who says civic duty can’t come with a little adrenaline?
Closer to home. The Grove, naturally, is running its own holiday multiverse: choirs in candlelit sanctuaries, Scouts marching at dawn like a merit-badge battalion, Bahamian art popping up in the neighborhood, bingo going mildly rogue, and more concerts than even the most caffeinated resident could reasonably attend. It’s December in the Grove — loud, cheerful, slightly chaotic, and impossible not to love.
